A tsunami is created by the earths plates are coliding and get stuck while one is trying to go under the other this can be the same way in for 1000's of years. Once one finally moves the force/energy is released upwards so the waves are created. The waves travel at approximatly 1000 mph and boats wouldn't even notice as the waves go under them. As the waves approach shore the waves slow down and get closer together and getting taller creating thier giant size and they grow the higher then 5 meters high and have such great impact on the buildings that are hit (they are known to have knocked down full towers.
